Cub Cadet won't start, no spark

Dad's Cub Cadet 149 hydrostat w/Kohler 16hp (30-40 yrs old). Engine replaced 10-15 years ago. Started missing & died. Would start but not run until started replaceing parts. So far replaced points, plug & wire, coil, condensor. Still won't start & no spark. Please help, don't know what to do next. Where do wires from coil connect to points/condenser +/-? What damage done if connected bassackwards?

the points/condenser connect to -(neg) side of coil on those...probably didn't hurt em by hooking em up backwards...your points gap should be bout .015 to .017 thousandths iirc...do you have voltage to coil??(+ side)are your points opening & closing??...sounds like you may have a short in ign circuit somewhere...take all wires off + side of coil & try bypassing ign switch(hot wire it)...

My son in law has a cub cadet 17 horsepower single cylinder briggs and stratton engine. It will not start. It sparks but will not start. can you help?
