I am having trouble getting the steering wheel of of my 300 utility. I have soaked it everyday with PB Blaster and have been rapping on it from underneath. Do I need to rent a puller or is there any other tricks to break it free?

Randy, the steering wheel on my 300U came off pretty easy with a gear puller and Liquid Wrench. The splines are tapered, so once it starts, it just falls right off. Be careful about hammering on the shaft, as you can damage your power steering unit. I wouldn't think a few taps on the side of the steering wheel hub would hurt, though.

The best steering wheel puller is easy to make. Find a nut to fit the shaft and a ball bearing large enough to not go through the nut. Weld the ball to the nut and allow to slowly cool. I`ve used stainless to weld them to the nut and never had a problem. Run the nut onto the shaft until the ball bearing makes solid contact with the shaft. With safety glasses in place hit the bearing while maintaining a pull on the wheel. It has always loosened even the worst stuck steering wheel I`ve ever come across and doesn`t damage the shaft threads in the process. Good luck
