I am taking apart an engine on a John Deere B. After removing all bolts and nuts the head seems to be seized to the block. I am hesitant to beat on it, or pry between the block and head. Anyone have any helpful hints? Thanks.

I don't want to admit to being this bad of mechanic but I had the same problem you seem to have on a JD B and even broke off a screwdriver head trying to pry it then upon closer examination, that old B had another bolt kind of hidden in the middle that I didn't see before. Once I took the last nut off, it was no problem.

Old,old ,trick....put 2 or 3 of the head bolts back in,all but about, about 1/4" from down....spark plug needs to be in also....what you are going to do is let the compression in the cyl."pop" the head loose as you turn the engine over....If you have help ,you might try hitting the head with a plastic mallet at the same time..... .

I put a block of wood against the head and hit that with a hammer, when I pulled my H apart.
Hope this helps
