Back 8 months or so I posted the fact that I welded my exhaust on my Dynahoe 3-53 while in place due to fear of removing some type of pump. The weld slag got in through a valve and stopped a piston dead in it's tracks. I asked about removing the head and how difficult a repair this would be as I never touched a diesel but have always fixed everythign I own. Well fear no more I bought a book and was ridiculed daily at lunch by my coworkers. That pump as I called it is the governor, very simple device and not too bad to remove. I rebuilt the cylinder head, blower, starter, fuel pump, water pump, compressor, injectors, converted to an alternator, sandblasted and painted every item I could remove and machined and welded from 3" tubing and a sprinkler pipe a new exhaust manifold - this alone took 20hrs on a bridgeport while I got laughed at. One person posted that I needed to be aware of the rack being absolutely free during start up and I should get help for that part. I got the best diesel guy around - James Jewell for my start up. All he needed to guide me on was the synchronizing of the injectors. It fired right up and I'v excavated or moved 100's of yards since then. I guess I'm just saying thanks to all that advised me and that you really can fix anything you put your mind to!! This board is fantastic!!

Wow!!
Sounds like you have done a quite alot of work. Glad to hear all went well. About as complicated as I have gotten is headgasket on AC D10, some minor injector work on my Oliver 550 and redneckin of a plow.

Great Job!! Your post will give others and myself a great boost of confidence to takle more and more of the care for our old iron.
