I'm going to be painting a C and H Farmall for my uncle in the next couple of months here and was wondering if anyone could offer me some tips on how to go about doing this, possibly what to watch out for on these tractors, are they easy to paint, etc. I have painted a JD B and JD 112 garden tractor so I have experience but any additional help would be appreciated.

Jerry B is correct. In my opinion it is best to completely disassemble the tractor. I have done a C that way and know it is a lot more work. Amazing how many parts are on such a "simple" tractor. Some people take most of the parts off and give them a couple of coats, and do the final coat after assembly, I don't particularly like that way, depends on what works for the individual painter.

Farmalls are more "open" than other brands of tractors. What this means is that you are going to have a lot of areas that are not easily reachable with a paint gun but still need to be painted. Areas like inside the battery compartment and under the fuel tank.

With so may linkages running from one end to the other, you may have trouble getting paint on all surfaces of them. Having to paint the back side of a linkage from the opposite side of the tractor runs the risk of paint runs where you didn't even think you were painting.

Careful adjustment of air pressure and fluid controls will help greatly.

Good luck.
