Looking for suggestions, I have a 1951 John Deere B that is hard to start and misses when it's running. I've had the carburator rebuilt, checked the compression, cylinders were less than 10 pounds apart, installed new plugs, points, condenser, rotor and cap.I installed all new wires. I also set the timing. I have not checked the adjustment of the valves. I did find a small amount of play in the magneto shaft. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!! Tim

Tim, what brand & type of magneto is on it?. Take an old spark plug & open the gap to 3/16", then install it first in one plug wire & lay it on the block, then the other, & while cranking the engine see if you have a BLUE spark that jumps that gap every time. If not, you have potential mag problems. If you aren't getting a consistent blue spark & with that mag shaft play, try opening the points a little more than specs to see if that helps. ~If the mag checks out good, suspect the carb or choke still isn't right. ~It probably wouldn't hurt to check the valve lash but if you have good compression that isn't your starting problem...
