Rebuilding ford 600 motor

I could use a little advice on a rebuild issue. I am debating whether to have my sleeves rebored and inserting oversized rings or to replace the sleeves altogether. What would be the best as far as quality goes, and what do you think the price differenc might be? My sleeves look in generally good condition but the rings are well worn. I have no significant ridge at the top of the cylinder. Prior to the overhaul I was blowing alot of smoke (Blow-by)

Why do you want to alter the sleeves if there is no ridge? Check the diameter at top middle and bottom to make sure the sleeves haven't worn unevenly.

Easiest way is to use one of the rings and measure just the gap. The gap will change when you move the ring to different positions if you have uneven wear. Use the piston without rings to push the measurement ring and make sure it is positioned square. Divide the measured change by 3.14 and that is the variation in diameter from top to bottom. (change in circumference is pi times change in diameter)

For my tractors, if the ridge is under 3-4 mils and the wear from top to bottom is 1-2 mils, I opt to leave the sleeves alone (ok, I hone them, but that's all) and put in new standard rings.

Go ahead and change the sleeves. You can get away with boaring them,but the heat from boaring them may distort them enough to make them loose in the block. It's more cost effective to replace sleeves than risk a engine block
