I should of posted here first.....

Wife and I went to Montana for 2 months this pass summer and left the boy (17 yearold)at home to take care of the animals. He tried starting my Case LA one day and uncovered the exhaust. When we got home, I seen the exhaust uncovered and put the can on it and did not try to start it (dum me). Last week, I wanted to get the LA ready for our local prades and it would'n start. Took the valve cover off and found three exhaust valves stuck!!!!!

Now I'm trying to take the head off and can't.
It seems to be glude on with ?????
I have a hoist above the head and it won't budge.

Any ideas in taking this head off???

Thanks, guys

good luck, I also wonder why engine needs tear down. these are not indy racers. my dad and i have sometimes left cap off exhaust and rain down pipe hasn't caused problem. I'd be happy my son took care of animals and even wanted to run my tractor.

Not to insult your intelligence or embarras myself, but I had an identical problem once and after breaking the tip off my screwdriver, discovered another head bolt that was covered in sludge in the center of the head. I wish you luck.

Not to insult your intelligence nor to embarras myself but I had an occasion just like that and after breaking the end of my screwdriver off, I discovered that I had missed one of the head bolts stuck in the middle of the head covered up with oil. Sometimes it is the simple stuff.

I bought a MM G704 that was stuck. I dumped deisel down the ex manifold and it freed it up and it runs great to this day. I wouldn't think you could be stuck badly enough to need a engine teardown in that amount of time. Raincap AND bucket is good idea next time, I always use BOTH.

I'm not familiar with the Case LA, but doesn't the engine have a inspection side cover you can remove? Maybe you can work the valves up and down thru the side cover, and not remove the head. Fortunately, the motor I was working on was a flathead, and was able to tap the valves back down thru the spark plug hole. I managed to free 8 out 12 stuck valves this way...

To lift the head leave the plugs in, put a small amount of oil in each cyl prior then use the starter. The compression usually loosens the head. Lotsaluck

Hey, that sounds like something my kid would have done. As far as taking heads off, his might have been first, then the one on the tractor. Just joking of course, but one of those little weighted exhaust covers work wonders, a little late now but make sure you bolt one on after you fix things up. Good luck with the project and give the young lad a cold beer and tell him you forgive him.

If Your hoist is not working a block & tackle might work. If it is while you have a littel pressur on it try tappig some thin shims in around the gaskit. take it easy it should slowley give up. If was a littel off track before sorrey.

You might try some PB Blaster. It has a catalyst that destroys rust and has worked magic for me. It might free that engine up and save you the teardown 'till after the parade.

Once you get it free, you want to run the engine to get that stuff out of the chambers. It continues to work as long as it's in contact and you don't want to leave it there for the winter.

When you get it running again, might be good to install a rain cap on the exhaust pipe instead of relying on a tin can.

While you are figuring how to take the head off.
I have a case davis loader this has happend to on occasion. and before I start to tare apart I Have filled the cylinder With a good foaming O ring chainlube For motorcycle's the Day or two before. 75% of the time this has saved me from a teardown job at all. Good luck TB.
