TRIED TO GET NEW 5.00 X 15 TIRES MOUNTED, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT GET THE BEADS TO SEAT. HE SAYS THE RIMS ARE OVERSIZE AND WILL HAVE TO BE GROUND OR TURNED BEFORE THE TIRES WILL FIT. HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED THIS; KNOW OF ANY OTHER OPTION? THANKS

THANKS GUYS FOR THE INFO AND SUGGESTIONS.. I BOUGHT THE TIRES FOUR YEARS AGO, BEFORE I RETIRED, TO HAVE TO RESTORE THIS TRACTOR, WHICH DAD BOUGHT NEW IN 1939. SO, HAD TO FIGURE A WAY TO USE THEM.. I REMOVED THE TIRES, MEASURED THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE FLANGE AND COMPARED TO A NEWER STEEL RIM, IT WAS ABOUT 3/8" LARGER.. I PUT THE RIM BACK ON THE SPINDLE, TURNED IT WITH AN ELECT MOTOR, AND GROUND THE FLANGES WITH MY 4.5" GRINDER, FOLLOWED WITH SOME FINE EMERY PAPER TO REALLY POLISH IT UP.. THIS REMOVED ABOUT 3/16". I THEN USED A 3" DRUM SANDER IN AN ELECT DRILL TO BUFF SOME RUBBER FROM THE TIRE BEADS, BEING CAREFUL NOT TO GET INTO THE CORDS.. REPAINTED THE FLANGES, MOUNTED THE TIRES, AND THE BEADS SLIPPED INTO PLACE..

I just completed remanufacturing A John Deere LA. There may be some slight differences in measurements in different brands of tires. I have Firestones mounted on the front rims. They went on and mounted just like they are supposed to. However the rims were sandblasted so as to get back to a good mounting surface. If you need the name of the dealer that mounted them for me I will be glad to give it to you. They sell a lot of truck and tractor tires and are very customer oriented. AWB

I don't think John Deere made oversize rims. Try measuring the diameter of the bead on the tire they were trying to sell you, and compare it with other brands of tires. Buy the one that is a better fit, those tires were probably undersized. I had a model L from 1969 to 1972 and put new tires on the front without any trouble. It was my first tractor.

Just remembered something that makes tire beads real slippery, try spraying silicon on the bead and rim, I think the stuff that was slipperyest was a silicon ignition sealer.
