Here's one for you. I have a Ford 600 with Marvel-schebler carburetor. I rebuilt it and thoroughly cleaned it. Put it on tractor and it leaked. Took back off and pressure tested inlet needle-held fine. Still leaked. So I got a new carburetor-same thing. Pressure tested it-fine. What I found is that if I disassemble it and put gas in the bowl I can watch that gas climb up the inside walls of the carb and soak the top of the carb. It eventually climbs right out and down the side of the carb?? No lying! What causes this, how can you stop it?

Fran,

I have a MS TSX-245, you a 600. However, there are only some subtle differences. Setting the float [correctly and evenly] can make all the difference in the world. Make sure your float is set at the proper level @ both the front and back of the air-bladders. Mine is set to "1/4". See the enclosed link: >Link

This>Link is an article from YT on rebuilding a carb. It shows you how to set the float [only the part near the pin, set both ends of the bladder to your specified requirement]. Make sure when you put the top and bowl back together that you do not bend the float...if it bends, your @&##%.

Regarding the gasket, a new gasket needs time to absorb gas a swell. Make sure the screws securing the top & bowl are real tight and evenly secured...if it is the gasket, Roberts Carb Repair seems to be the guy...he's in YT somewhere.

If you soaked the carb, make sure you either took out before or replaced after, any of the shaft's packings...if those are gone or damaged, gas will leak.

good luck,
tom

Yea, I've seen that before. There's a fancy term for it that I can't remember at the moment.

Main thing usually is the gasket is supposed to keep the gasoline inside the bowl, and yours isn't. There's a lot of cheap and otherwise no good gaskets out there. I suspect you've got them.

It's got to be the float level setting or a float with a hole letting gas fill it up.

Also, make sure that the float is not hanging up on the side of the bowl. I had this happen on a farmall M. drove me nuts trying to find the problem!
