On my 47 JD A we are not able to read the serial numbers. Does anyone know a way to make them more readable? Thanks, Ben

Thanks guys... We are going to try again this weekend. using pencil lead we think it is 580901 which makes it a 47 A. The first number is a guess.
thanks again

Chalk works quite well also-go over the numbers with white chalk then wipe off with you finger. If there is any indentation at all it will stand out and be very readable.

Clean the serial # plate down to the bare metal and paint over the numbers with black or some color that will stand out. Then while the paint is still wet wipe the plate off with a staright edge of some sort, which leaves the characters filled in with paint. It worked on my old tractor.
