I'm working on a friends wheel tractor. A MF 135 with serial number 9A15707. The problem I'm having is that the PTO shaft doesn't want to disengage when the lever is diengaged, the shaft continues turning while disengaged. In order to get the shaft to diengage i have to disengage the lever and shut the engine off. When the engine is started the shaft turns for a moment then stops. Could the splines on the inside of the shaft be twisted? Can I pull the shaft out the rear of the tractor without droppping anything inside the case? I have worked on the Ford 8Ns. I could just loosen the four bolts on the back and remove the shaft, can I do this with the Massey or is there more to it? I would like to do away with pulling the top cover off. Could it be something with the clutch not disengaging properly? Any suggestions on what to look for. Thanks anything would be appreciated.

Might be adjustment, or the early signs of the pto clutch wearing out. Before you pull the shaft, it's likely you'd want to drain the oil from the housing first.
