Just curious to see if anybody had some tips on head gasket replacement. My tractor is a 1948 8n,I freshened it up last winter with new rings and gaskets, but now it is blowing antifreeze smelling "fog" out the exhaust,so i assume the head gasket didn't seal. Is there some sort of sealer that I should use to get a better seal. The mating surface on the block was clean and I had the head milled because it was warped a little, but it is very flat now..Got any suggestions???

Thanks,
Tim

Did you retourque the head bolts after the engine was hot, failing to do this will cause that problem.

I use a product called copper coat it's available at most auto parts stores in spray and brush on cans.Don't forget to check for cracks and use proper head torque procedures.

Thanks guys,I'll change the head gasket this weekend and try both of those fixes. I thought about using the copper coat stuff on it when I was putting it together, but didn't. It's just a working tractor for now, eventually I'd like to get something a little newer to use and restore the old ford properly.
