I have repaired several that supossedly could not be fixed. If you remove the manifolds you will have to use a heavy piece of flat metal to bolt them down to to hold them flat. Vee the cracks with a grinder and also clean tha surrounding metal with the grinder. If cracked underneath do the grinding before you bolt it down. Use nickle rod and weld an inch or so at a time. Immediately peck the weld with a scaling hammer 20 seconds or so. An air scaler works great. This releaves the stress in the metal that makes it crack. If you are not concerned about looks build the weld up and spread it out well over the crack. If you want it to look good do the same and grind it down. Let it cool on its own still bolted to the jig. Its a very good idea to take it to a machine shop and get it surface ground to true it up. Hope this helps.

Lloyd ,

If you have had success with arc weld on cast , try acetylene cast iron rod you will have even greater success .

Hey George Thanks for the tip. I will check on some rods the next time I am in the welding supply store. I welded a cast iron part on a grists mill today. The repair looks great but have not run the mill yet. Several years ago I welded a part on a John Deere combine that the dealer mechanics said would not hold. The part was not in stock so to keep running I welded it. Several years later the engine blew but the weld was still there. Lloyd
