Problem starting my Mower

I was having trouble starting my mower. It would turn over but would not start up. A friend came over and put a used coil on. The mower started up right away. While he was putting the coil on he told me I should get a new spark plug wire because the one I have is loose at the coil connection.

I begin to mow but was low on time. My wife said that she would continue mowing while I was gone. When I came back the mower was sitting in the yard. I lifted the engine cover and sure enough the spark plug wire pulled out of the coil. I put it back and since then the engine will not even turn over. I have tried to jump it and have charged the battery. It just clicks once and does not even begin to turn over.

1. Check engine oil level. 2 Can you turn engine over by hand ? If so,check to see if you are getting electricity to the starter. If so, I am betting your starter wore out because of the excessive cranking it tried to endure during your previous starting dilema.

Hi Jim,

Your wife killed it. Blame her third party image.

Seriously though I cannot think of any connection between the coil/sparkplug wire and the ability of the engine to turn over. The coil and sparkplug wire is part of the ignition circuit and has no bearing on the engine turning over. The not turning over part is either in the starting circuit (starter) or there is some mechanical problem in the engine that is causing it to "freeze up".
