I am trying to fix a relatively old weed eater (probably 20 years old). Can I find help for that here? I know you all work on real tractors, so if people like me annoy you, then help me find the place to get info. If someone is not annoyed, I need info on tuning it...I think. Weed Eater brand 1700, It starts after lots of pulls, but runs inconsistently, dies, doesn't like it when I give it fuel, but once warm always starts, just won't run when I give it fuel, and eventually dies again. Have changed the plug, fuel, used some carb cleaner, etc. there are three screws on the carb, idol, "hi", and "lo". Any ideas? Can't be that hard, can it? Thanks,

1.Parts should be available to rebuild the carb. I have a 30 year old chain saw that I can get carb kits for. Be sure to clean all of the ports very thouroughly.
2.When replacing the fuel line, also replace the fuel filter in the tank.
3.Check compresion. Should be at least 95 PSI. These little motors won't run on less.

The low speed screw has probably vibrated to the closed position. Try turning it our 1 turn and see what happens. Check what others have mentioned and check the exhaust to be sure dirt dobbers don't have it plugged up. It'll be the last thing ya check!

Recently my grandfather left me his 1959 International Combine truck. It needs a lot of work (body). If anyone has information that can help me I would appreciate it. I would like to restore or rebuild (get the most bang for my buck). This is a sentimental project for me and I would like to honor my grandfather with this project.

Please offer any help or advice.

With the machine being that old I would check the fuel pump diaphram. These diaprams get old and brittle and with this problem the suction and pump tabs do not give a positive seal.

Ditto on the stiff diaphragm. Just overhauled my WEEDEATER carburetor because of the same problem. Kit was $10 and runs like new again. Change the gas line that runs out of the bottom of the tank while you're in there.

Keep running it with the cleaner in the fuel. More than likely there are some clogged ports or jets in the carb due to the old fuel drying and leaving residue. Don't take the carb apart if you don't have to. It has extremely small pieces and parts may not be easy to get. You can verify the carb problem by turning the adjustment screws while it is running. If they make no difference, something is plugged. Usually the pilot (idle) jet is the culprit because it is the smallest one. Sometimes turning the screws will help clear out the problem. Don't tighten the screws when they bottom out, you can damage the jets.

Check the air intake. I had the same problem several years ago, took it to the shop,they cleaned a handful of dried mud from the air intake. They said it happened all the time, when people put the motor on the ground to work on the string head, and dirt/mud gets shoved into the intake baffle.

Try taking the muffler of that little tractor and cleaning it out.Oil and carbon deposit on the screen in the muffler and cause back pressure to where it don't want to run right. This may not be the complete problem but that is where I start looking.
