Help! I have a Deutz Allis 1920 Garden Tractor and the PTO's quit working on me. I went out to mow my property when the PTO's just would not start up at all, no lights, not attempted take off, nothing. I figured my cheap battery was the issue, so I bought a new one, but this did not help. Does anyone know of some checks I can perform to locate my problem, Are there parts to fix this thing if I do figure out what the problem is? It has 1400 hours on it, and I acquried it about 2 years ago, in sad shape. I replaced both head gaskets, fuel pump, crank seal. and some tire valves and she's been running great ever since. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Robb Parthemore

Robb, the clutch on these is electric. Before tearing into the clutch (expensive to replace), you need to be sure you are getting 12 Volts to it. There is a 2 wire connector at the clutch. Unplug this and verify you have 12V there when the clutch should be engaged. If not, you may just have a bad switch. You should have a model/serial tag on a sticker on the frame. Get the 169XXXX number on it. Go to the Simpletractors.com web site, click Parts & Manuals and you will find a link to download the manuals. I belive there is a wiring diagram in either the parts or operation manual.

OK, with the switch in the on position, I get a solid 12volts plus reading at the wire near the clutch..I am thinking I do not want to hear the next step. Where do I look for a new clutch assembly??? Thanks for your help

THanks Joe, I Tore into the clutch before I read your reply. I recognized a wire that may have been shorting out, I replaced it and at first it didn't work, but after a couple of tries it now works???? I have had a bad battery too, and am getting a brand new one this week for it. I hope this thing lasts a while longer, any idea of where I can find parts? I was told the Simplicity Sunstar is an exact duplicate of this Deutz? Do you know??
