I have been buying JUNK for years. I bring home old tractors that no one wants, clean them up and re-sell. Here's what I use; Deisel fuel and a wire brush will get most everything loose. mineral spirits will get what the deisel fuel misses For the "final cleaning" I have always had good luck with Mr. Clean. I put it on with a spray bottle, let it set for a while, then hose it off. Makes things sparkle. I try to stay away from the urge to pressure wash everything. They force water into places that it has no business being in. (Bearings, electrical componants, ect) I use the deisel fuel carefully. Apply it with a big, loose nap paint brush, and give it time to work. It will break down even the toughest dried grease. Use caution to not let the deisel fuel go to the sewer, or get in the ground. I have a sand filled pit, that catch's the deisel. It's a bit messy, but it really gets the gunk off the old tractors.

I have had good success with cheap oven cleaner from the Dollar Store. Spray on & leave overnight. Might take several applications for really heavy stuff, but it really eats away at that caked on oil (and paint, also, for that matter).
