The 2 1/2-inch diameter outlet pipe between the muffler and the manifold has come off of
the manifold on our Massey 33. The remaining threads
are pretty well rusted out. I am not certain if the manifold can be re-threaded for a new stubb pipe or whether some other method can be used...looking for advice..... ..... .thanks....Chris

If you're sure they are standard taper pipe threads, and there's enough room, you could borrow or rent a 2 1/2" pipe tap to clean out the old threads and add one or more new threads .

If that won't work, some auto parts stores carry a good selection of muffler/tail pipe adapters. The are 3-6" long and have a different size on each end. You might find one that fits the manifold and the other end to fit your muffler pipe. For instance, one adapter I saw is 2"OD x 2" ID. Maybe brazing to the manifold or possibly using JB Weld to attach it would be an answer.
I think JB Weld is good up to 600°.

Even though the threads look (and are) pretty well done, there's probably enough there to hold a new pipe. Just to check, get a 2 1/2" pipe nipple threaded and try to start it in the manifold. Use some copper-cote anti size on the male and female threads and give it a try crefully with a pipe wrench. It will probably grab enough to give you a good stub. If it works, then you can get a pipe threaded at one end and just long enough to get through the hood, maybe 3" or so above the sheet metal. Then you can drop a muffler on it, not too heavy a muffler, try for a smaller one so the threads don't get under too much stress. If the experiment with the nipple doesn't work, you could get someone to seld a new stub onto the manifold but you'd probably have to take the manifold off to do it and of course there is the problem of welding old cast iron. You might end up with a mess so I'd hesitate to use this second solution.
