My collection of dirty spark plugs is getting bigger and bigger. What is the best way to clean the insulators. (Is it my imagination or are spark plugs fouling out a lot easier now than they did twenty years ago, especially in older engines.)

Air blast spark plug cleaners have been made for years and do a good job. You can buy a fine blast media to use in them or use fine glass beads. You will have to clean the media off with clean air and then I spray them off with carb cleaner and put some no-seize or a lubricant on the threads before installing. I clean the larger plugs in my bead blast cabinet. You can get the spark plug cleaners or bead cabinets from tptools.com or from harbor freight. Unleaded gas is like everything else in this country, raise the price and lower the quality.

George the best way to clean a plug that i have found is to use an acytlene torch .Take a pair of pliers and hold the plug by the tip that the wire plugs on to, and with a small tip on the torch, and a nuteral flame, without burning yourself, aim the torch directly into the bottom of the plug , be careful not to melt anything,it is all right if it turns red but don't melt.Watch the porcelan around the center electrode as it cools from red it will turn white just like when it was new. This might take a bit of practice , but it works.Yes plugs foul a lot easier and stay fouled with unleaded gas so much for progress.
