I have a Harry Ferguson TO30 and have got the head off of it and there is oil setting on top of two of the pistons.Could someone tell me what the problem could be with this? Could it be the rings in it causing this problem?

do not think it could be the rings and here is why.when a engine runs it splashes oil on the clinder wall and the rings wipe it away. for enough oil to get past the rings so as you could see it on top of the piston this would have to be a great amount. gravity would not let this much oil adhear to the clinder walls. plus the engine would burn any oil as it is deposited.a ring would have to be cracked in pieces and engine would have smoked like a train for this much oil to be there. so help me out here. why did you take the head off in the first place. did you do a dry/wet compression test before hand. was the motor running up till the day you took it apart.

Brenda,
could be rings, a blown head gasket, or on the worst possiblity a cracked block or head. I would bet on the head gasket without looking
