My 8n hydraulics quit over the winter. My uncle pulled the pump and said that there was water in the oil that froze and the check valves on the side of the pump had cracked. I guess these are the valves that run off the pto shaft? Does this sound about right to anyone? And can they be replaced or is a complete overhaul needed? Before this happened the hydraulics would pick up anything I needed them to. Thanks.

I seriously doubt you've got cracked valves. Those don't break, ever. You may have cracked pump heads though, those do break from frozen water. Quite repairable, parts are available. But I'd be hesitant about letting your dad or whoever do the repair. I think they are barking up the wrong tree right now, and that doesn't bode well for repairs.

Thanks for your reply. You probably used the correct term on the parts where I didn't. Can these parts be replaced by themselves? The tractor is a '52 and I'd really like to get it back in shape soon. Maybe a complete overhaul next spring. Thanks again for the help. Jeremy S.
