We are considering whether or not to overhaul the engine on the old GP prior to restoration. Measured 50 psi on the Left and 65 psi on Right cyl. The tractor is running and has never had any overhaul work done. We are getting ready to put in new seals and put a really nice paint job on it for shows and demonstrations for schools. It hasn't been run hard for many years so I don't know how much it smokes after it gets hot, or oil usage under load as radiator leaks badly and will have to be replaced during rework, so I can't load it up and work it hard right now. What would you folks suggest be done for engine work while it is in tear-down for primer? Or what checks would you make on the engine in this condition (our first restoration in-process)..... Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

With the compresion low as it is it is advisible to go ahead and rebuild 50psi on that cylinder is on the verge of not enough to run...I have restored near 30 tractors and have rebuilt all the engines . I'd build it now so I would not have to disassemble later and mess up a paint job.
Go Ahead and do A First class restortation now and it will out last you...
