I have a '39 Farmall M with a cracked block. I want toget another block but I was told to check the numbers on my crank as well as on my block to make sure the existing crank will be compatible with the block I buy even if the block has the same part/production numbers. Why is this? How can a crank fit one and not he other if the blocks have the same #'s. Is the person I'm dealing with trying to sucker me into buying another crank along with the block or is there really a big compatibility issue with blocks and cranks? any help appreciated.
