I have a 1940 M FBK 22402. I want to put a live distributor pump from SM,400,450. What has to come from later model? Front plate, front cover, distributor mount? What else?

I assume these parts changed when the parts#s changed. If that is the case no Ms before 1950 would let distributor pump bolt up. Several posts about upgrading with dist pump don't indicate this.

Anyone with complete knowledge on this could probably clear up my confusion and get me on the right track as to what year Ms I can find the right parts on.

Do the timing gears usually come off ok with a good puller. (I have restored several classic cars, but no tractors)

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated

You will need a reservoir and control unit;
They were usually located under the fuel tank of the Brit.M's don't know about the American M's after 1952,(none were brought into this country after 52,were all Brits).
The timing gears do pull easily but I don't really see the need to remove them as the timing goes right thru the pump to your distributor,or magneto.
Hope this is of some use to you,
Good luck

The original timing gears are not strong enough to run a hydraulic pump. They do need to be changed.

thanks, I guess the gears off any SM-450 that had a distributor pump would be made stronger.
