My deceased father has a ?yr. 1600 ford diesel.
One month ago we started it (started right up and ran wonderful) and mowed roadsides for my mother. Last week-end we were going to take the mower off and put the blade on. The glow plug comes on, horn works, no lights(but don't know if they ever did)but nothing happens when turning key to start. Battery checks out ok. My Dad did not have any insurance so to help mom out I cover most of her expenses.I would like to try and figure this out without having a implement dealer haul it in. Any suggestions to someone without much mechanic smarts. Where do I find the serial #. No Manuals.
Would try to pull it but it also has a loader on it which is down. Thanks for any suggestions.

When you turn the key do you here a click, if you do its probably a bad solinoid. If no click check the cables, start at the battery clean them and see what happens. Hope this helps

Then you probably aren't getting power, you need to check the battery cables etc. Power from the battery isn't getting to the starter. Hope this helps

Dave, Check underneath the trans for a wire being pulled apart. There is a wire that hangs down there that is part of the safety switch wiring. It sometimes gets caught up on things while brushhogging. goodluck Dave from NY.....
