I want to clean up the carb on my H Farmall. I know there is some governor linkage there that I have to consider. What complications will I run into if I remove the carb from the linkage? The operators manual says to be sure to hook it back up if taken off.

Hi Mike. I recently took mine off on a Super M. probably the first time in 50 yrs it was opened up. I put an rebuild kit in from TSC($~20). I am fairly new at this too and don't know all of the names of the parts but i tell you what i ran into.
The float was good. No gas in it. One adjusting screw was froze and still is. The linkage from the govener should just slide off once you remove the two screws. Mine would not because it had been on so long and was corroded to the butterfly. If yours is stuck spray with pentrating oil and let it soak. Pry off gently there was no tricks to mine. Some the replacement parts from the kit seemed less durable than what was in there so i just cleaned up those and put back. Don't clean out passages with anything other than chemical cleaners and air. The last bit of advice is go to the IH that you should see under Discussion forums on the left here and search on the subject of carbs. Lots of good poop. Red is one of the best and several former IH mechanics. They can and will answer every question you might have on IH farmall. Good luck!

Mike, removing and reinstalling the carburetor is pretty straightforward. You will have to remove the lingage that attaches to the govenor and the linkage that attaches to the chock lever. You will also need to remove the fuel line and the air intake hose. When reinstalling the carburetor always use a new gasket at the exhaust manifold manifold and do not overtighten the bolts. Good luck..... ....Bill
