I am looking at buying a International 300 utility T.A. one thing I noticed the shifter lever moves very stiff even when moving side to side and the oil has a grayish tint to it . Are head gaskets a common problem I have not taken a compression test yet. any advice? thanks

It probably would be a good idea to change the Transmission fluid, The 300 series on up use hy=tran, and it needs changing regularly as it absorbs moisture and will effect the life of the TA ifnot changed.

Head gaskets shouldn't be a problem.Sounds like shifter is sticking on pivot pin. Drive pin out just below shifter. Pull shifter up and out of trans. There you will find a second, larger pin.Press this pin out also.Clean pins and pin bores. Lube and reinstall all of above.Hope this helps,if not, repost and we'll try again!
