I have an older (1940's?)Westendorf hay wagon (running gear) that use to belong to my grandfather, and I am wanting to restore wagon to original condition. I am told this wagon is also referred to as a fifth wheel, and it has a single tree for horses along with the tongue to pull behind a tractor. Does anyone know of any info avalable regarding this wagon? I have searched the internet, but no luck. I am trying to find out just general info about this wagon and what the color of the wheels should be painted, as I know to use the westendorf red for the running gear. I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

The fifth wheel they are talking about is the turntable on the front axle.
Check out Amazon.com for some excellent books on horse drawn equipment & restoration.
Feel free to contact me for more details.
Above is a pic of a future project, a IHC steel wheeled trolley.
Cheers Brad
