I am restoring a continental Y-91, and I was looking for a little backround on the engine. I would like to know what they were used for. It has a clutch with a large belt pully. The radiator has Red Seal on the the side of it and it is convection cooled. Looks like an engine made in the 1940s. It has green paint on it so I was thinking that it might have been on something made by Oliver, maybe a combine? Any info would be greatly apreaciated.

Look it over real close. If it is a military, you
will need to modify parts for it. Green is
somewhat of a give away on this. I used a 605 for
many years on an irrigation well. Parts were easy
to get, but always had to be modifyed to fit. The
owners manual showed where to place explosives to
destory the engine to keep it from falling into
enemy hands.

MY little tid bit. They've been around a long time. They've been used in cars (Star for one) trucks, tractors, farm machines (one mentioned upon an International baler in the forums a couple/three days ago, and staionary uses.
Check with a log established parts dealer. I beleave parts are still readily available.
I'm thinking the engine was manufactured in Musgegon,Michigan.
I'm sure there's somebody who knows more.
Luck.

www.montesequipment.com
You get only a home page and contact info.
I suggest you ask about manuals first.
