Can anybody help me? I have a 1950 Ford 8N and having problems with steering.I replaced the steering assembly, tried to start it, but the motor would not turn over.(made sure it was not locked up) I assumed the starter was bad, so I replaced starter and drive, but still having the same problem. Starter acts like it is in a bind and won't turn motor over. I don't know what else to check.

Dirty connections and inadequate wiring are the bane of six volt starters. Check your wiring and connections over closely. It's very easy to have enough connection to make a starter tick over, but not enough to crank the engine.

To eliminate timing problems or soome other mechanical problem. Can the tractor be pull started. Pull with another vehicle or roll of of a incline. Place in 4th gear and release clutch with ignition switch on engine should start and run. We had a 8N ford Some times known a a hill side tractor to us. You started out discribing a steering problem. The steering can bind in front axle if not propely maintained.
