This repair is on the casting that the master pto shield spring clips to on a 730D John Deere.

The tractor will be worked some but it is mostly a restoration.

The PTO sheild clips onto four holes in a casting on the rear and the top right one is snaped off.

I can stick weld a bit and did some brazing 30 years ago.

With Practice first can this be repaired by me?

Would brazing be stong enough or take less skill?

This repair would need to be filed and drilled back to original function and appearance.

I used to work in a fabrication shop and most cast iron repairs were brazed, however there are cast iron rods now that are supposed to be pretty good. If you braze it, put you a piece of carbon rod in the bolt hole and grind the weld area so you will braze the whole thickness. Then remove the carbon, grind and chase the threads. As for the stick welding, I cannot advise you on that method. Preheat the cast iron a while before brazing or welding on it.
