I'll give this a try Les. Thanks.
My above post I was merely having a little fun in pointing out there is more than one turpintine. I have used both. The paint thining variety used also for a paint drier. Paint thinner (Or oleom spirits was used only as a paint thinner. The second even further out and above out of context turpintine is a heavy syrupy fluid made for medicinal purposes, perhaps a muscul liniment.
I doubt its used much any more. Thanks again for the enlightenment.
I've got one stuck engine I'd like to free up before Spring, if not next winter.
Have a good one.

Well I find it best to fill the cylinders with oil/tranny fluid etc. first then a week or so before you are ready to work on that engine fill them with the gum spirits of turpentine and you will probably have a runner. And ya I understand a little LOL

I have come to be a believer in using automatic transmission fluid for a soaking solution in stuck engines. I have tried alot of different things but certainly not everything, including turpentine. This is one of those deals where if you ask 100 people what to use, you will get 75 different answeres. I might just try the turpentine next time and just see if it is better than ATF.

Well I have tried just about every thing over the last 40 years from coke to tranny fluid and oil etc and ever since I tried turpentine I've had more luck in less time then with all the rest. But any more its getting hard to find true turpentine

If its the old stuff it should say mineral spirits on the can, you probably where reading one of my posts. The old stuff is getting hard to find, the last stuff I got I brought all the place had and was told they will not ever have any more.

I think the new stuff says something like turpentine substitute or something like that on it. I have a can of turpatine that is like that. I think if it says turpentine on it it must be genuine. But I have been wrong before :)

Mineral Spirits is a oil product and is available everywhere. About $2.50 per gallon. Its between kerosene and gasoline and is almost odorless. Turpentine is refined Pine tree sap and has a distintive odor. Cost $5-$10 per gallon. Use to be used for paint thinner but not much anymore.

I pour in Mystery oil in each cylinder and follow up with 120 psi of air for several hours.
