All,
My power steering pump made a mess of the front of the engine, with its leaking oil. I took it off and took it apart, with the help of the pump fellas here at work. It's an Easton gear pump.

Seems that the seal (CR 7443) has worn a deep groove in the shaft, and that is where the oil is leaking.

Where could I source a new shaft for this pump? Alternatively, is there something that I could use...some sort of epoxy or something that I could use to fill in the groove? Or maybe I could use a seal with a slightly smaller inner dia than the 7443, and have the machinist turn down the shaft where the seal rides.

Where could I source a seal and bushing kit for this pump?

Open for any help at all...thanks.

Bob East Hampton, CT

perhaps this comment is too late. But if you already dismantled your pump and have the pump shaft apart have it with the machinist to refill it by welding it depending on the sort of material could be using stanley steel electrode, the sort of electrode to be used should be known by the machinist, then the shaft machined to give the right tolerance with the seal. As easy as that. This is an standard practice and should be done in 3 to 4 houers.

The brand name would be EATON.

Here's their website. They should be able to refer you to a distributor near you for a seal kit.

The Speedi-Sleeve is a great idea. Most automotive parts places or machine shops can get the size you need overnight.

Yes Eaton is correct Bob.

I ref'd Chicago Rawhide as the seal p/n indicated it was mfr'd by them and size of the sleeve would be a no brainer. They may also have an alternate seal for that p/n with an off-set lip or two lip that would solve the problem w/o the sleeve.

I am not associated with CW but have been impressed with their expertise and service in the past.

Bob, you may want to consider a speedi-sleeve made by Chicago Rawhide. Joe
