I have a $100 flux cored wire welder - works OK for what I need it for -

is there a flux cored wire available that will do aluminum?

can any wire welder weld aluminum?

can any welder?

You can weld it with the mig, you have to have argon for sheilding and very low ampserage. You would need to buy aluminun wire, but it really depends on if you plan to use it in the future or is it an temporary thing?

If your wire feeder can be converted to gas you can use it. Need argon for a shield with aluminum. You will find your steel wire to be MUCH cheaper also. Bad thing is you will need an Argon mix such as 75%Ar/25%CO2 or 95%Ar/5%O2 for the steel. Might be cheaper just to go see the local welder man unless you have alot of it to do or a need for 2 more bottles to rent or buy.

I also tried some flux-cored brazing rods for my gas welder - haven't been able to acheive any sucess yet with this method either. But since the package of rods cost $100, I'll have to keep trying...

No to both your question. To weld that stuff you need the shielding gas other wise the aluminum will burn not just melt but it will burn and its very hard to put out.
