The light lenses on a tractor I'm restoring are starting to discolor, is there something that would restore them back to clear, or almost clear? thanks for any info.

In the desert Southwest, glass left laying out will turn into 'desert glass' and is a popular item for rock gardens, mantle displays, etc. The color that the clear glass attains depends on its' composition. Pink, purple and amber seem to be the most common hues. I don't have a clue as to how you can reverse this proccess but I kind of think that it can't be done. That last statement will surely prompt a reply that will prove me wrong but.....then we will both know the answer to your question! :-)

I'm not an expert on this but I used to collect old bottles which would also turn these colors . I asked a few bottle collecters at a antique show about it and I got the same response - It is a chemical reaction within the glass with oxygen , in other words the glass is oxydizing so there is nothing that can be done about it . Old glass has a lot of impurities such as metals used to color it , example -red taillight lenses . Like I said I'm not an expert so I don't know what metal is used for red , But you get the point . Just try scrubbing as much off in the sink with HOT soapy water and a stiff brush as will come off . Good Luck -Randy-IA
