I have an old two cylinder JD 330, and I have replaced every cup and cone bearing in the transmission. I have also had a machine shop re-work the input shaft and first gear cluster and replaced the roller bearing there too. The only bearings that I have not replaced is the roller bearings on the power shaft, but tyeh looked pretty good. The transmission is still noisy. It sounds like metal slapping together. Am I trying to get this thing too quiet, or is there a certain amount of noise that should be expected? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan

Are you using the right oil in it. Worked for JD when these tractors came out and they reccomended a type scl 85-140 oil. Of course they took the scl oil (sulpher chlorinated lead) oil off the market years ago,. Be sure you are using a EP(extreme pressure) type oil in it. Also if the ring gear/differential carrier bearings get rough they will sound like a transmission noise since they are in the same housing .
