In the mid-70's, Ford (Lincoln, Mercury) put a neat little power steering cooler on many of their cars. Generally, it was mounted on or about the A/C compressor. It was a simple loop, with fins attached. It should cost you $20 or less at any older parts yard. It is a well-designed part, and is almost universal-mount in its design. This can be plumbed into the RETURN line of almost any power steering system, using a couple of hose clamps. DO NOT plumb it into the high pressure line, or you will get a massive leak. The unit itself can be bolted just about anywhere, but of course, the more air flow the better. This little change will reduce the temperature of your power steering fluid, and greatly improve the life of your pump and power-unit. This is especially the case in older equipment, where the power steering systems are less efficient than they are now and generate more heat.
