I understand that there is supposed to be a spacer on the rear axle shaft. Where is the spacer supposed to be located? A spacer is not shown anywhere in the parts book. Can anyone out there tell me what the thickness of the spacer is supposed to be? Or does anyone out there have a spacer that they would sell? Thanks, AWB.

Found your question as I was searching previous discussions. I had a G that had spacers that allowed the wheel base to be extended 10 or 12 inches per side. I think it was used in producing onion sets. I took them off and may still have them. I don't know if AC made them or if they were locally fabricated. They looked "factory made" Lloyd

I just had mine apart and don't remember a spacer. Could you be referring to the bearing retainer, that looks like a spacer? It's a press fit collar that holds the bearing in place on the shaft. It has a flange, that creates a slot around the shaft between itself and the bearing that the little retainer bolt thingies screw into that prevent the shafts from simply sliding out of the housings.

Tools: There wern't any spacers in the rear axle units that I took apart either. The addition of a spacer between the bearing and the shoulder on the axle, and the addition of a spacer between the brake drum and the other shoulder on the axle is covered in an Allis Chalmers service bulletin and in a drawing in the Allis G repair manual. I wasn't aware of this either until the unit wouldn't reassemble right without the spacers. Hope this helps.
