my question is about my ford 601 i am restoring, i have finished the motor and paint and am reassmbling it. but i notic that when i run it the rocker arms are tapping the valves. it makes a unattractive knocking. ive set the gap between the rocker arm and the valve 2 times. but it is still there. i think im doing every thing right but if you have a sugestion it will be well apritiated.

its hard to say but here are some things to think about

does the book call for cold or hot engine before adjustment?
are you sure the piston was at tdc compression stroke?

can you isolate the noise to one rocker (gently press on rocker while running to see if noise changes) or listen with long screwdriver aginst ear and rocker stud

is the engine a rocker shaft type or a separate stud for each valve. of shaft type possibly worn shaft where rockers ride

good luck
