I have a leaking cylinder on one of the backhoe extend hydraulic rams. How do i remove the ram from the machine and replace the seal. I just bought the 416 a week ago, so I'm not to familiar with it. Thanks

If you are talking about the dipper entension cylinder (extend-a-hoe), you will need to remove the bucket and the sliding portion of the dipper. You'll need a good set of snap ring pliers and several musclular buddies (or some sort of mechanical device) to help get the extension off. It's been several years since I've done one, but they are heavy!! If you've never rebuilt a hydraulic cylinder, I'd suggest taking it to a hyd. shop and paying to get it done, OR buy a parts/service manual from CAT (VERY PRICEY!) so you can see what goes where.

Just remember anytime you are servicing any hydraulic component to make sure ALL pressure is relieved, and booms/buckets,etc. are blocked or chained so nothing will fall and crush you or anyone else.
