I'm not sure how much of a hill you mean, but they don't like to run up hills very well. You won't be able to drive up much of a grade at all in 4th, for sure. You should be able to run up a fairly good grade (on a nice, firm surface or road) in 3rd, but try it for an extended period and you'll have it overheated in no time. No, the engine won't 'pull down' much, the TC is doing its job. Keep an eye on your transmission temperature first, then your engine coolant temperature and you'll see where all the energy your engine's putting out is going to instead of making the tractor move. We've been using Case backhoe/loaders to move round and large square bales in the field and on the farm for many years. The story has been the same with every one equipped with a TC (580C, 580K, 570LXT, 580L) - drive to a field, load the bales, drive to the next field, stop and let it cool down for 20 minutes, repeat. They're wonderful loaders, but they aren't built to move around quickly for any extended period of time or on anything but fairly flat, hard surfaces.
