I have a cub cadet, early 80's model,18 hp, that has been the best lawn tractor I ever had. I repowered it about three years ago. The front grille has the right side, about three inches or so, broken-out. It seems to me that you ought to be able to make a moulding of some sort, maybe playdough or something, and pour fiber glass to make it whole again. My question is, have any of you fellers out there done something like this, and figuered out how to make it come out of the mold smooth, sort of the way boat makers do.Any help from your experiances, even if yor's didnt work, would be rael helpfull, thanks in advance.

I think if you can come with making a mold, then line it with wax paper,it should release from cured fiber glass. You'll have to rough up the good part & maybe drill some small holes along the edge to give it some tooth to stick to, Jim

thanks Jim, a neihbor told me he repaired apart of a fiberglass piece on his car by taking earthen clay, pressing it around a simular part on another car and sprayed it with silicon spray. He had to do some filing and sanding and if you stood back a 100 yards or so, you could'nt even tell it was repaired. I f you could, then keep backen up til you couldnt. When I get to it, I'll try something like that, but thanks for your help. Steve

Just get a fiberglass repair kit with fiberglass mesh and resin. Following instructions, cut pieces of mesh, soak them in resin, and lay them in place in the "wound", until it's built up. Sand, touch up with spot putty, and paint.

thanks Bob, but the whole right side beam is missing, and that's why i'm thinking to make a form to pour the glass and was wondering how to make a smooth pour. but like you say, just sand it down and fill in the rough with putty.
