I just purchased a 1976 Case 380 and I have a problem shifting back and forth between forward and reverse. Doesn't want to go into either gear very easy

Any suggestions on this problem.

Is it shuttle shift? Could be linkage problem, if you're lucky. Next check hyd reg valve. Otherwise fwd/rev clutches may be bad I have the op manual if interested.

Dennis,
If it's just hard to shift fwd/rev lever, it's probably linkage or shuttle spool binding. I remember kicking linkage on top of tranny under steering tower accidently and it got in a bind and wouldn't shift.I wouldn't force it as the geometry is touchy and you might never get it right again. If it slips, it's a fwd/rev clutch or hyd regulator/pressure problem. You need manuals. Make sure you get right ones as there were different versions- David Brown 380s and CIH 380s. I have DB 380 hyd system and aforementioned op manual. Try Elmer on Case forum too, he's the 380 guru.
