G'day to all, Folks, I'm in a quandry as to the original factory color of the starter, generator, carb, etc. Looking through the pics available I've found some black and some red.I spent 8 yrs.driving these Farmalls after the war but can't remember the colors, too busy just driving I guess (sometimers not the other one). Thanks for any help you can provide,Dick

As Red Dave observed all these components came painted red from the factory. However I prefer the carburetors painted black, since unless the carb is perfectly sealed (impossible) or the tractor is never run, the carbs turn brown/black after a while anyway.

I also agree with Dave on this: They're MY tractors and I'll paint 'em how I like!

Thanks Red Dave for your helpful info on the paint scheme, it is very much appreciated.
I suppose I'll do it like the original and still hear plenty of discussion from the nit pickers, but once again, thanks,Dick

Starter and generator were red from the factory. The tractor was painted all red except the tires, rims, steering wheel & magneto. Replacement starters and generators were usually black.

I paint my starters and generators black because I like them that way. I know it isn't correct, but it's my tractor so I make them the way I like.

If you look at the book "Farmall Letter Series Originality Guide" by Guy Fay, there are archival photos of tractors on the assembly line going through the paint booth. No masking or taping, everything was made red.
