To paint tractor parts and implements there is a product called POR15. It is super tuff and provides a rust barrier much superior to normal paint. They even have tractor colors now. Check out their website. www.por15.com

Well, let's see, I've used the regular Case IH paint and also the John Deere paint - both pretty much cheapo junk. If ya do it right, any paint will last a long time. I prefer to use all PPG products. They are made for automotive purposes so they have a good hardener in them and they SHINE forever! I've even spilled gas on my PPG paint and it hasn't left a faded spot yet.

True, you get what you pay for, but using the proper procedure will make Wal-Mart house paint look good on a tractor.

Just my opinions

I've used their stuff, as have many watermen I know. To call it trash disgraces trash. Their local rep doesn't show up at the big watermens convention any longer because he got laughed out by folks that had used the POR15 garbage.

But, in their defense, I see that they have now changed the chemical composition of their products, and their instructions.

Follow their current instructions, and any paint will survive, as you've just done standard proper procedure repair. Ie, clean to bare metal, use an acid etch, use a primer prep, prime, use POR15, then paint.

A wonder product it isn't. There are many other extremely good paints that cost far less then POR15.

PS, their rep couldn't explain how the stuff can be harder then steel and flexible (that's one of their BS claims).

I used POR15 on the inside of my battery box. Very impressive, but also very expensive. I used the $10 trial pack so it didn't hurt too bad. A few things to consider though; once hard, it's VERY difficult to clean off. It clogs sandpaper, smears when using a wire wheel, and I hear it's almost impossable to sandblast. Also, once a container is open, it's hard to keep....tends to dry in storage. There are other comparable products out there for less money. Sorry, can't remember names though. If you're going to use this stuff, buy only what you need, and only plan on doing the job once.

I have used some of their products and was very pleased with them, the worst part is the price. Gene Davis

DuPont Imron, Endura, super tough paints on the machine, the wallet and the health. Take any acrylic enamel wherever you get it from JD, AC, New Holland go to the automotive paint store and if they will sell it to you buy a small can of enamel hardener (any brand) mix a small amount in the paint to be sprayed (only the paint to be sprayed) and paint away it will dry hard, shiny and faster than air dry enamel. Good luck.
