I need to coat my battery tray and inside of battery covers with something to prevent battery acid corrosion. Would powder coating work OK for this? Or is there a better way? Thanks.

I wonder if you might go to a body shop that does spray on bed liners it sure works great on beds. I have the same problem I might check it out and let you know.

One thing to consider with Powder Coating. Epoxy powder will break down in sunlight(UV). Make sure you get a polyester or other UV resistant material powder. Second, If you don't mind not looking original, Optima batteries(www.optimabatteries.com) use a newer technology that doesn't use liquid acid. The terminals DO NOT CORRODE. The battery tray won't either. They use a spiral gell cell and they are proven. All rodders and racers are using them. As my batteries die in my trucks, cars, and tractors, I am replacing with Optima. They are better for tractors because they don't have suspended lead plates like conventional batteries that will break under severe or long term vibration(that's usually how conventional batteries fail).

Never tried this but it may work? I saw in a hardware catalog a plasticote dip (said it was like the plastic on some pliers handles). Sure looked impresive. It would protect the metal with the layer of plastic IF it worked. The only experience I have had with powder coating was on the White Wagon wheels that were popular 10 years or so ago. These wheels would start rusting after some time. Maybe the process is better now?

here in the town whre i live, lake charles,la there are two places that do powder coating and i think that this would be better that painting, enter powder coating as a key word and there are several sites about this, may-be you can talk to one of them and get a better idea, also think about taking the tray to a shop that does spray-in bed linners that will work graet if you dont mind the looks , also alot of good paint stores carries a do it your self linner paint, its a two part paint , but will not be as good as the job done at a shop unless you take it to bear metal, the cost of this kit is about 100.00, to make this worth while you need alot of trays, there is enought in the kit to do the bed of a full size truck.

AWB- A simple and cheap trick I've used for years is-
1. Wash & soak the parts in hot soda water. Neutralize acid and corrosion on the parts now.
2. Air dry the parts.
3. Coat all surfaces with #90 gear lube. Not motor oil, not gun grease, but plain old fashioned GO90.
4. Throw some soda powder in the bottom of the box to neutralize later acid attack.
5. Re-do the above during the annual service. Hot water rinse parts and throw in new soda during earlier services.

AWB-You could also paint on POR-15,just clean and degrease, use a metal prep and brush it on,it drys
like powder coat and battery acid does not bother
it. Their web site is www.por15.com
