I have a Cockshutt 30 with a severe rear axle leak. It was repaired (at a cost of $430 to me) about 10 hours ago but is now worse. The wheel seems loose as well.

Are there any permanent repair techniques available that I could apply to my leaky axle?

I'm not a Cockshutt expert, but without more info,it seems that you may have a bearing retainer coming loose(loose wheel) or such, thus causing the new(?) seal to leak and potential further damage to follow if used in that condition. A good axle seal and and/or bearing repair should last a decade or more. I think you need to have a talk with the mechanic that did the recent work.
