I have 2 issues with my 9n. The first is I cant get it to throttle up without snubbing it out. (The fuel system has been cleaned and the carb rebuilt) and the second is the battery will not stay charged (new battery, plugs, and distributor). I like working on it but I am getting frustrated. Please help

For throttling it up, did you rebuild the governor? They have a bad tendancy of developing flat spots on the flyballs which makes the governor "stick" and malfunction. If it revs up/down but starts to sputter, I would think you need a carb adjustment. Take a propane torch and turn it on but don't light it and wave it around all the shafts and openings of the carb to check for air leaks while the tractor is running. If you get it to one spot and the tractor suddenly starts running better, you've found your air leak.

As for battery charging, are you running 6V or 12V? If it's 12V, then I probably can't help you without you coming up with a wiring diagram (my main reason against 12V conversions....15 different ways to hook them up right and 1000 different ways to do it wrong!). If it's 6V, then you need to polarize the generator cutout. It's the round can with the two small wires coming out of it that sits under the battery tray. Just arc across both of the wire terminals with some pliers handles or short piece of wire with the ignition on and that's all it takes. This kinda "excites" the genny and gets it ready to charge. It never hurts to re polarize and you should do this every time the battery is disconnected. BTW, check out the N-series board on this site...we deal with questions like these day in and day out and would be more than happy to help you out!
