I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem I have been having with my IH 424 utility. It starts and runs fine for a while but after it heats up it begins to bog down and will only run if I pull the choke all the way out. I have tried nearly everything in the owners manual to no avail (fuel lines, filters, coolant levels, cleaning the carb without taking it apart etc). I have heard that the clicking noise made when you turn the key to the on position is the fuel pump and this tractor has recently stopped making this noise. Is there any truth to this? And would it still start and run without the fuel pump working? ANy advice would be very helpful as I have hay cut waiting to be baled. Thanks

I had the exact same symptoms with my 2424. Turned out to be a small piece of wood ended up in the tank, and got wedged in the outlet when the tank ran real low. Seems like I fished it out with a chunk of coat hanger. So take a look inside your gas tank - sounds like you checked every other part of the system.

The clicking is the electric fuel pump.

The clicking noise is the fuel pump, and yes if the pump is not working it might get enough gas to run from gravity feed but not enough gas for higher power uses. they must have put the fuel pump on for a reason. I have a 2444/444, about the same rig...
